This policy explains what data ScentMatch collects and how we use it.

1. What we collect

Your account email. Profile preferences you enter (location, season and weather context, lifestyle, gender lens). Your fragrance collection and wishlist. Photos you submit for bottle identification (these are processed to identify the bottle, not to identify you). Messages you send us (feedback). Usage and device data as described in the cookie section below.

2. How we use it

We use your data to run the advisor (verdicts, daily picks, recommendations), personalize results to your context, meter plan limits, process payments, send the emails you opted into, fix errors, and improve the product. We do not sell personal information. We do not use your data to train AI models.

3. Processors

We rely on the following processors to run ScentMatch, each for a specific purpose:

• Supabase (US): authentication and database hosting.
• Vercel (US): application hosting and AI Gateway routing.
• AI model providers via Vercel AI Gateway: Anthropic, Google, and Amazon; Anthropic and Google also directly. These providers receive the fragrance and context data needed to generate a verdict or identification, not your email.
• PostHog (US): product analytics, as described in the cookie section below.
• Sentry: error monitoring; prompts are scrubbed of personal data before capture.
• Stripe: subscription payments; we never see full card numbers.
• Resend: transactional and lifecycle email delivery.
• OpenWeatherMap: weather for your approximate location (coordinates only, no identity).
• Apify and Fragella: fragrance catalog data enrichment. They receive fragrance names, not your personal data.

4. Cookies and analytics

Before you make any consent choice, a small set of anonymous product-analytics events runs under legitimate interest: no page-view tracking, no session recording, no profile is created, and these events cannot later be linked to you. If you select Accept on the consent bar, page views, session replay, and account-linked analytics turn on. If you select Decline, all analytics stop, including the anonymous events. To change your choice later, clear this site's data in your browser and the consent bar will ask again, or email us and we will apply it for you.

5. Email choices

You only get daily reminder and win-back emails if you turned them on. You only get product-update emails if you said yes to the post-verdict ask. Every commercial email includes a one-click unsubscribe link that works without logging in, and the toggles in Settings control the same preferences. Transactional email (sign-in codes, receipts, account confirmations) is separate and cannot be turned off.

6. Retention and deletion

We keep your data while your account exists. You can delete your account in Settings (type DELETE to confirm), and your profile, collection, and logs are removed. Some payment records are retained by Stripe as required by law.

7. Where data lives

Your data is processed and stored in the United States.

8. Age

ScentMatch is not directed to children under 13, or under 16 where a higher minimum applies. We delete accounts we find in violation of this.
